Day 342 Wintry Mix
We are having icy rain today! I took this photo and several others after reading Chapter 2 of The Visual Toolbox by David DuChemin. A group of us are going to study together with this book in 2014. 1/250 f/2.5 ISO100

Day 263 This is our last beach visit of the year! I miss summer already.

Day 262 Upon arriving home just before 7 p.m., when I pulled into the garage, I noticed beautiful light on my steering wheel. I didn't want to photograph my steering wheel but I decided to go get my camera and photograph the sunlight entering my garage at just the right angle to illuminate the inside of my van at that moment. :)

Organized!
Day 211 I have finally gotten these notebooks organized! The green one is for phone numbers, addresses, printed directions, and stuff like that. The orange one is for current photography class notes and my photography journal. The blue one is for notes on topics other than photography. And the white notebook holds older photography notes. Oh, and that yellow spiral notebook under my calendar is for FAHA notes. I would have put the notebooks on a shelf by my desk, but that bookcase is completely full already!
Day 122 This morning, my girls attending "Bring Your Friend" day at their friends' choir class. Ian played on the Nook and I read Click magazine while we waited. I had brought my camera so I could try practicing for MNLI. We were sitting about 8 feet from a glass wall facing east-ish, at nearly 12:30. So this is soft, flat light.
Day 120 Practicing for Clickinmoms MNLI (Mastering Natural LIght Indoors) -- Since she wanted to finish watching a movie, she is sitting 90 degrees from the window, creating side-light. It's soft light because it's overcast outside and it's 11:30 a.m. and a northwest facing window. This is my favorite one of the session.
CM Blog Circle, April {through glass} These buttercups bloom on my lawn every spring and I love them. I was struggling to find glass I wanted to shoot through this month. I tried shooting through the viewing window of my daughter's dance studio, but didn't get anything very good. Finally, on the last Saturday of the month, while making some breakfast, I looked out the front window and admired my buttercups. Then I realized if I photographed them from the kitchen, I'd be shooting through glass! It took about 5 shots before I was content with one. I wanted to frame the scene with my whole window, so it's obvious I'm shooting through glass, but I also wanted make my subject clear. I didn't think shooting closer to the glass would look good, so instead I raised the vibrancy and yellow saturation a little bit to hopefully make the buttercups stand out more. I like the light on the chair in the foreground too, and I think it adds context to the photo (reminding me what room it is) but I tried keeping the shadows down so the chair isn't distracting. Or is it still distracting? I'm also wondering if the neighborhood in the background is too distracting because it takes up more room than the flowers. Of course, I was only doing it this way because of the the them, shooting through glass. I have other pictures of my buttercups that I prefer, which I took outside, right up next to them.

Day 114 Apple Crispy Bedroom -- I am not loving painting but I do love the color we chose for our bedroom. It's called Apple Crisp and it makes me think of yummy things like caramel and pumpkin pie. One more bedroom left to paint and we'll finally be done! We thought we'd do this in 2012, so this is big.
Day 103 University of Mary Washington Annual Multicultural Fair -- When Rhiannon asked me to get a bottle of water, the place I went to had Mexican food and I decided to get some guacomole, after asking to make sure it was fresh. It was some of the best guacomole I've ever had. In this picture you can also see the backpack I bought at the fair. Now I can fit my Nook and my camera in my bag at the same time! :)
Day 101 Ian and I played his version of Munchkin today. In his version, we get as many cards as we want and if we don't like a card we can just discard it, so nothing bad really ever happens. I'm looking forward to when Ian enjoys following the rules of games. I did enjoy hearing his latest computation and reading skills as he counted up his bonus points and read the cards.
Day 100 Star Wars Miniatures with Dad Robert stayed home sick today but took a break from napping to play a little with Ian. They're battling Star Wars minifigures, using Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine which side wins each battle. I actually started this shoot with ClickinMom's current creativity exercise in mind and I'm really pleased with the exposure. The exercise is High ISO Color Photography. I've known for a year now not to fear high ISO because it's a must inside the house, but I ended up going to 6400 with this, which allowed me to close down the aperture to 3.2, a bit smaller than I usually shoot, and I think better for this kind of scene. No blurry parts of my subjects. The clutter is another issue I hope to conquer in the next two weeks before I begin my next class, Mastering Natural Light Indoors, beginning April 29.
